Sgt. William Paul Wood was a native of Atlanta, GA. Born: December 27, 1946 Died: April 6, 2024.
He is survived by his devoted wife: Diane Emerson Wood, RN. Sons: Wm Phil Wood (Carol) Demerest, GA & Sgt. James Lee Wood, Sautee, GA. Grandsons: Asa, Corey, Jeremy & Phillip Wood as well as several Great Grandchildren.
Sgt. Wood served in the US Army from 1966 to 1980. This included a tour in Vietnam. He also served in multiple duty stations including the Army Ranger Station in Dalonega, GA, Fort Benning, GA & Fort Sill, OK & Fort Campbell, KY.
Sgt. Wood was decorated with numerous awards during his 14 years of service. These awards included: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, 2 overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross / Unit Citation with Palm, Good Conduct Medal / 2 campaigns Ft. Campbell, KY, As well as 2 Bronze Stars.
In addition to his military career Sgt. Wood transitioned from MP/ Guard Chief duties to Law Enforcement in GA for several years in Habbersham & White Counties. He subsequently had a successful construction administration career until his retirement. Sgt Wood oversaw the building of many churches, public schools & parks in the greater Atlanta, GA area.
Bill was an avid marksman & fisherman. His hobbies included woodworking, creating custom lurers, writing pens & reading.
He is interned in the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
