William Marcus (Bill) Queen Jr. of Little Switzerland N.C., age 68, passed away September 29, 2016 at the V.A. Medical Center in Asheville N.C. He was the son of William Marcus Queen Sr. and Betty Jean (Hickey) Queen. He was born on December 8, 1948 in Spruce Pine, NC.
Bill was a highly decorated veteran serving our country in the United States Marine Corps for 23 years. He received the Purple Heart during the Vietnam War as well as the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and was a distinguished leader of the Marine Expert Sniper Team.
Survivors include his son Eric and daughter-in-law Patty Queen and granddaughter Rileigh Queen of Marion N.C.; grandsons Jackson and Charlie Queen of Raleigh N.C Brother and sister-in-law Mike and Ruth Queen of Spruce Pine and nieces Lacey Queen and Bethany Glenn also survive. He was preceded in death by his oldest son William Marcus (Marc) Queen, III.
Services will be conducted Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 4 PM, at the First Baptist Church in Spruce Pine N.C. Mr. Scott Huskins of Scott Huskins Funeral Services and pastor Dr. Rocky Branch will officiate. In addition, Clebe McClary, one of the most outstanding motivational and inspirational speakers in America who served with Bill in Vietnam, will speak at the service. The family will receive friends at the church from 2PM until the service hour.
