Thomas "Tommy" Lawson Obituary

Thomas (Tommy) Fred Lawson, age 63, of Dahlonega, Georgia was born in Cherokee County to Evelyn Cox Lawson and Calvin Lawson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenneth (Kenny) Lawson, and step-daughter, Joni Grizzle Flynn.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly G. Lawson, stepson, Jeremy Grizzle (Tracie), sister, Pam Adkins (Russell), sister-in-law, Dianne Lawson, nephew, Zachary Lawson (Rebekah) and niece Betsy Lawson, as well as several great nieces.

In addition he is survived by his grandchildren, Gabriella and Gavin Grizzle, and Mattie and Mielah Flynn (who live with him & Beverly).

Tommy attended Cherokee County High School in Canton, Georgia. He was saved at Buffington Baptist Church. He worked several places, including Garrison‘s Furniture before working 30+ years as a mail carrier at Canton Post Office, retiring from there in 2019.

In his younger days, Tommy played in several groups, country and rock music, as a drummer. His band opened for Freddy Fender, Larry Gatlin, and Rickey Skaggs.

Years later, he found a hidden talent to play the piano. He and Beverly played and sang gospel music at a lot of churches around North Georgia. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Suches, Georgia.

Tommy was a licensed preacher of the gospel. He and Beverly shared a love of photography. They often went riding in the mountains and country-side, taking pictures of the scenery. He also loved working outside planting flowers, shrubs, and plants.

Tommy had a great love for family and friends. He never met a stranger, or if he did, they weren’t a stranger for long. He made many lifetime friends at the post office and at many churches. He will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 3:00p. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00p in the chapel at Dahlonega Funeral Home, 20 Gibson Rd., Dahlonega, GA 30533. The Reverends, Rudy Trimble, Scott Wilbanks, and Mike Holaway will officiate.
