It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Jared Maxie, age 32, of Cumming, GA, who left us on January 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Thomas was a beloved son, brother, nephew, and friend, known for his larger-than-life personality and unshakable spirit.
Thomas was preceded in death by: Linda Hudgins (Granny); Warren Maxie (Pops); Beulah Maxie (Grandmother); his best friend, Lil Bit (Brandon McGee); and his cherished aunt, Tasha Maxie.
He leaves behind his loving mother and step-father, Christie Burks and Chris Gregory; father and stepmother, Jerry Joe and Janice Burks; grandfather, David Maxie; grandfather, Lasseter Joe Burks; siblings, Koby and Amber Maxie, Jerrica Burks, and Cameron Gregory; and his adored nephews, Cole, Kamden, and Madden Maxie. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends who were touched by his life.
Thomas was the captain of his Special Olympics softball team, where he earned the title of the best first baseman and inspired others with his dedication and team spirit. He was also known for his skills as a cook at Kroger, bringing warmth and kindness to every meal he prepared. Outside of work and sports, Thomas had a deep love for fishing, video games, and basketball. He was an avid fan of the Florida Gators, University of Kentucky, and the Atlanta Braves—passions he shared with those closest to him.
A man of unwavering faith, Thomas lived by the motto "Faith over Fear." His positivity, determination, and joy for life will be remembered by all who knew him.
The family will receive family and friends for visitation at McDonald and Son Funeral Home,150 Sawnee Dr, Cumming, GA 30040 on Tuesday, January 14: Immediate family from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and public from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, January 15 at 2:00 PM with interment to follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens, 1390 Dahlonega Hwy, Cumming, GA 30040.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Special Olympics Forsyth County or the Brain Tumor Foundation in Thomas's honor.
Thomas will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
