Sally Mae Peters, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026.
Recently of Canton, GA, Sally had lived most of her life in Liverpool, NY. She was born on November 18, 1932, in Fort Plain, NY, to Joseph and Emma Ross. She began her working career at the Beechnut Manufacturing Plant in Canajoharie, NY, where her life took a meaningful turn after meeting her future husband, Louis A. Peters, Jr., at a dance held in the upstairs hall of the Fort Plain fire station.
Sally and Louie were married on December 26, 1954, and shortly thereafter moved to Chicago, Illinois. Once Louie completed his education, they settled in the Syracuse, NY area, where they became part of a close-knit community of General Electric families and built a life together that spanned more than five decades.
A devout Catholic, parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Liverpool, Sally’s faith was a guiding presence throughout her life and shaped the way she cared for others, served her community, and supported her family.
Those years were filled with friendship and tradition—gatherings with dear friends, bowling alongside close companions Jim and Donna Robertson, summers spent at Fourth Lake, and cherished holidays in Amsterdam and Fort Plain. Sally remained deeply connected to her childhood friends Doris Dutcher, Janet Rupert and Madelyn Schuylerthroughout her life, valuing those friendships above all else. They brought her immense joy and were among her greatest treasures. Raising three sons was also no small task, yet Sally handled it with quiet strength, grace, and unwavering devotion—never letting the challenge show.
Sally was predeceased by her husband and a granddaughter, Bobbie. She is survived by her three sons: Stephen (Charmel) Peters of Virginia Beach, VA; Larry (Cindy) Peters of Front Royal, VA; and Mark (Kathy) Peters of Canton, GA. She was also a loving grandmother to four grandchildren—Samantha Skeen (Joey), Miranda Brittain (Corey), Niki, and Billy—and a cherished great-grandmother to Hunter and Isabell Skeen. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Theresa Caron, and her nephew, Michael Palumbo, both of Amsterdam, NY.
Sally loved to travel, especially enjoying winters spent in Cape Canaveral, Florida, and treasured time with lifelong friends and family. She was known for her passion, dedication, and strong will—qualities that shaped her life and the lives of those around her.
She retired from the Liverpool School District in 2005 but remained active in service, generously volunteering her time with organizations such as local food banks and hospice care.
A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 11:00a at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 4069 Howlett Hill Road, Syracuse, NY. Sally will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
Sally will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched. We take comfort in knowing she is reunited with Louie in heaven.
She was our mom, our anchor, and our example—and she will never be forgotten.
With love,
from her three sons
