In Loving Memory of Ruth M Gettys November 7, 1934–January 12, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth M Gettys. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. On January 12, 2025 Ruth went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and selflessness. She passed away peacefully at home with her beloved husband by her side.
Born on November 7, 1934 in Statesboro, Georgia, Ruth lived a life rooted in her unwavering love for God and her family. She dedicated herself to her faith, always putting the needs of others before her own and shining as a beacon of love and compassion.
As a mother, Ruth was a pillar of strength and wisdom, raising her children with grace, patience, and a steadfast devotion to Christ. Her love extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who cherished her warmth, thoughtfulness, and the many life lessons she imparted.
Ruth had a giving spirit that touched the lives of everyone she met. Whether through a homemade meal, a heartfelt prayer, or a simple act of kindness, she found joy in making others feel loved and cared for. Her generosity was a reflection of her deep faith and her desire to share God’s love in every way possible. She loved to quilt and enjoyed spending time in her garden.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years Erwin Gettys, her 5 children, Janet McGregor Dunn (husband Greg Dunn), Claire McCullough (husband Steven McCullough [loved, missed & now reunited in heaven]), Lynda M Jacobs (husband Brent Jacobs), Douglas Gettys (wife Sandy Gettys), and Mark McGregor; her grandchildren Chris McGregor (wife April McGregor), Adam Gettys, Matthew Gettys, Christina Winslett, Ian Winslett, Naomi Edwards (Dakota Edwards), Skylar McCullough, Alysha McCullough; and her great-grandchildren, Niah McGregor, Madison Winslett, Jonas McGregor, Ella Brimer, Lilah McCullough, Violet Winslett, who will carry forward the values and love she instilled in them.
Ruth’s life was a testament to one of her favorite scriptures, "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Psalm 51:10. While our hearts ache at her passing, we find comfort in knowing she is now in the presence of her Savior, hearing those very words.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at 1st Baptist Church of Greensboro, 203 South Main Street, Greensboro, GA, where we will honor the incredible woman she was and the profound impact she had on all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project reflecting her lifelong commitment to giving back.
Rest in peace, Ruth. Your love, faith, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know you. For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2nd Corinthians 5:1
