Nora Lee Mashburn Jones age 95, peacefully reached out and took the hand of the Lord, Jesus Christ, from her home in Asheville, NC on April 13, 2024 after being surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 7, 1928, in Bryson City, NC. Nora's life was a testament to unconditional love and values of family, dedication, and the simple joys.

Nora is survived by her sister, Peggy Jackson, youngest son, Bradley Gene Jones (Lynndayle), their children, Nathanael (Siera) and Rachel, also son-in-love, Michael Rice. Her grandchildren, Chelsey Lee Gaddy, James Scot Gaddy (Cassandra), Christopher Mundy (Julie). Nora is also lovingly remembered by her fourteen great grandchildren, and her many adored nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death were her father, William Gurley Mashburn, mother, Minnie Reese Mashburn, and eight siblings, husband, Leland James Wallace Jones, Jr., daughter, Vivian “Vickie” Lee Jones Gaddy, sons; Barton “Bart” Alan Jones and Bryon Scot Jones, granddaughter, Linsey Marie Jones.

Nora cherished moments with the Lord and her family most. She retired from Southern Bell/AT&T as a telephone operator after 40 years. She was woman of profound kindness and humility, always willing to lend an ear, share advice, or support others through life’s journey. Nora was filled with remarkable determination and strength, leaving everyone around her inspired by her caring kindness. Her legacy is largely characterized by love, bravery, and a spirit that made a lasting impact on everyone she touched.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, April 16, 2024, 12 noon at Oteen Baptist Church, 37 Oteen Church Road, Asheville, NC 28805. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00a -12:00p. Burial will follow at Sky View Memorial Park, 1610 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, NC 28805.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nora’s memory may be made to Oteen Baptist Church, Asheville NC.
