John Wayne Shirley

John Wayne Shirley, 68 years of age, of Gainesville, GA, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, on October 21, 2023.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan Wood Shirley, and their ever-loving dog Rose Mae and cats TigerRoo and Pretty Girl. He is also survived by his sisters Janice and husband Gary Green, Elaine Dodd, and brothers Bobby and wife Kathy Shirley, Billy and wife Mary Shirley, Eddie and wife Rhonda Shirley, and Sammy and wife Renee Shirley. Also, his sister-in-law, Kay Wood Rupp, and brother-in-law, Michael Eugene Rupp along with uncles and aunts, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his father and mother, John Edward and Euna Shirley, his brother Waymon Shirley, his nephew David Shirley, his niece Amanda Shirley, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond “Buddy” and Clara Wood.

John was a hard-working man and well-liked by his peers. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. When not outside, he enjoyed watching old movies, NCIS and other Military/Police type programs.

Susan would like to thank Janice and Gary Green for their love and support in helping take care of John during his lengthy illness.

He will be greatly missed.

At this time, a funeral service is not planned. A Celebration of Life may be scheduled at a later date.
