Jennifer Ferris Herkommer, age 46, of Euharlee, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Cartersville, Georgia, succumbing to her battle with breast cancer.
Born on August 25, 1979, in DeKalb County, she was a Georgia girl her whole life.
Jennifer graduated from North Cobb High School, in Kennesaw, Georgia, where she found her first two best friends, Laura Dagosta Brueggemann (Tim) and Alicia DeRome Hendrix (Danny) and the "Tribe" began. She attended Georgia State University, in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia with a marketing degree.
Upon graduation, she was employed by Tool Pro in Kennesaw, Georgia marketing construction tools. Here she found her third best friend, Aimee Austin Brewer (Justin), another member of the "Tribe". Next, she worked for John Weiland Homes, where she found her fourth best friend, Paula Bishop, the final member of the "Tribe." She went on to work for Yanmar America, again marketing construction equipment and loving the travel and then Branson Tractors. She then went to work for TravelStorysGPS, which fit right in with her love of travel and helping people who love travel. She was also an active member of the Cartersville Service League.
Jennifer met Dominik Herkommer in 2019, sort of a cliche - in a bar because he liked her hair. When they were first dating, she called him "the German" and so did all her friends. He came into her life with a wonderful daughter, Chiara, the "Baby Germ". She instantly knew he was her person and together they shared a love of travel, family, and learning each other’s culture.
She married the love of her life on April 6, 2022, on Driftwood Beach, Jekyll Island, Georgia, one of their favorite places. In doing this, she became part of a great German family.
Jennifer wanted to do it all and see it all! She especially loved the beach and many of their travels involved beaches. She loved Germany and her German family, loved learning about the country, culture and customs and meeting family and friends. She wanted to experience it all.
The "Tribe" were her four besties and were there for her through thick and thin; she loved them so very much for loving and supporting her. She was so thankful to have not only one best friend, but four long time best friends. Jennifer was fiercely loyal to all who were lucky enough to be loved by her. She was a vibrant soul who was not defined by her illness, often fighting alone as to not worry others. She was also very private about her health. No one knew how much pain she endured or the depths of her struggle because that was not her style. Protecting others was what she did.
Her family and travel were her two biggest passions. If you knew Jennifer, then you knew Jennifer. She was full of life, quick with a smile, had a beautiful laugh and everyone loved her hair. She was known far and wide for her hair. She never met a stranger no matter where she was, because she loved people, and they could feel her energy and in turn loved her.
Jennifer was a "word-nerd" and the go-to person if you needed something proofread. She especially disliked the mispronunciation of words like especially, library, specifically and espresso, to name a few. It was a joke to mispronounce them in front of her. She loved to dance and loved 80's music. She knew the names of songs and artists and was great at music trivia, or just 80's trivia. She loved nature, hiking and kayaking with Dominik and Chiara. She loved being a mom, always wanting, loving and encouraging her daughters to be their best. She had a great sense of humor and was quick to laugh. Her laugh reached into you like a great big hug. She was very accepting of others, but did not like disrespect, lying, rudeness, and self-importance. She could be blunt and call you out. She was an animal lover and loved her pups, they were also her people.
She was beautiful, loving, gracious, and kind. She was the spark and joy in so many lives. A wonderful light in the world has dimmed and everyone who knew her will never forget her. Our hearts are broken by her loss, and we miss her more than words can say. Her warmth, laughter, and love will live on forever in our hearts.
She is survived by her husband, Dominik Herkommer, from Eningen unter Achalm, Germany; daughters, Chiara Herkommer and Haley (Lee) Enderle; mother, Lynn Wood; father, Bob (R.O.) Ferris (Mel); brothers, Robert Fischer and David Ferris; granddaughters, Lydia and Nyla Enderle; grandmother, Jane Head; father-in Law, Peter Herkommer (Lilly); sister and brother-in law, Denise and Florian Krutis; niece and nephew, Ella and Theo Krutis; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and her loving pups, Kitty, Sadie and Milo.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Cartersville Civic Center, 435 W Main Street, Cartersville, GA.
Jennifer was someone who always gave everything for others. In her spirit of generosity, we ask that instead of flowers, donations be made to a charitable organization of your choice — helping someone in need, just as she always did. To honor Jennifer’s vibrant personality, please do not wear black or pink. Please join us in sharing memories, love, and gratitude for the light she brought into our lives.
