Jan Jacobson Obituary

It was an amazing year. Mount Rushmore was completed, Margaret Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth II were born, and Ben Hur was the most popular movie. But the most significant event of 1925 to our family was the birth of Janice (Jan).

Jan met the love of her life at the beach one day. Jake was a handsome Air Force cadet at Keesler Air Force Base. For the next 49 years Jake and Jan moved 15 times with the DuPont Company and traveled the world. Jan taught Sunday school in churches wherever they moved.

Jan was a Renaissance woman.
She was highly educated.
She taught Latin and English Literature.

Jan was one of the few people who could quote de Tocqueville and Shakespeare - and diagram sentences!

After raising her family she was a guide at the world famous Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, Delaware.

Jan earned a Master's degree in the Decorative Arts specializing in Pre-Industrial Revolution glass. She guided at Winterthur for 25 years. www.winterthur.org

Jan was an excellent bridge player and accomplished golfer.
She was an avid tennis fan and could recite all the stats and rankings of the men’s ATP tour. She even named her dog after her favorite tennis player Rafa Nadal!

Jan had a quick wit and loved to laugh.
She valued education. Jan actively supported the philanthropic P.E.O. scholarship program.

Jan was preceded in death by her mother and father Eunice and Dewey Price, her sister Katherine Finley, and husband Conrad (Jake) Jacobson.

She is survived by her daughters Dr. Judith Katherine Jacobson and Jamie Lee Cahill; grandchildren Shannon Lee Coffey (Chris) and Cameron Jacobson Brown; great grandchildren Brittin McLain Brown, Melissa Judith Coffey, Christopher Thomas Coffey Jr., and Jacobson Roy Coffey.

She is also survived by her beloved brother-in-law Robert Sterling Finley, niece Lynn Dunstan, nephew Robert (Nancy) and their children.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 25th, 2018 at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 11am. 101 Old Kennett Rd. Wilmington, DE, 19807.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous can run to it and be safe.
Proverbs 18:10

Now Jan knows in full what she only knew in part before.
