Gwendolyn Leader Steigerwalt of Alpharetta, Georgia, passed away September 21, 2025.
Gwen was 76 years young and lived a life of passion and grace. A cherished and beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt, she had a talent for design, as well as for finance and management. For most of her life she was a Pennsylvanian. Born in West Chester, she attended high school in Doylestown, then received her degree in fashion design from Drexel University. She moved to Pittsburgh and became a tax accountant with PNC Bank. In Pittsburgh, she met Jeff, her husband and love of her life. Shortly after meeting, when they realized their strong attraction for each other, they purchased and renovated a 100-year-old grocery store on the edge of downtown Pittsburgh that had been boarded up for 35 years. They lived in the building for 11 years until moving to Wexford, a suburb of Pittsburgh. Together, as business partners, they created and ran a successful exhibit company for 35 years, before retiring to Georgia in 2020, to be close to their children.
Among her many interests and delights were jazz concerts, cultivating flowers, reading mysteries, collecting Snoopys, birdwatching, swimming, hiking in the western National Parks, and being close to nature. Gwennie enjoyed exploring the history of the American Indian at Western Heritage sites. She and Jeff made some 20 trips out west and visited almost every National Park, National Monument, State Park, and Historic Site in the lower American Southwest. One highlight of her life was attending the 2016 Republican National Convention where Jeff was an elected delegate.
Gwen is survived by her devoted husband and best friend of 45 years, Jeff, sons Justin (Laura) and Todd (Christen), sister Trish Weekes (Doug), and grandchildren Billy, Eloise, James, and Sophia.
Her caring and cheerfulness will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service celebrating Gwen’s life will take place 10 a.m., Friday, October 3, at Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. This will be a closed, private service, however, anyone may join through this live link
