George Cantrell

Mr. George Cantrell, age 64 of Canton, GA passed away March 20, 2026 at Piedmont Hospital Jasper, GA.

George was a sweet person that would lend a hand to anyone. He loved the outdoors, metal detecting, fishing and looking at rocks. He had made many friends over the years and prior to becoming sick, had worked at Leon Jones trucking. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Cantrell of Holly Spring and Dorothy Mae Cantrell of Canton; brother Dean Cantrell of Holly Springs; sisters Joyce Cantrell of Canton, Ann Turner of Jasper and Marsha Hollingshead of Jasper.

He is survived by his girlfriend of four years Michelle Smallwood of Jasper; sisters Lorene Lummus of Canton, Diane Lummus of Canton, Patsy Godfrey of Ellijay, twin sister Georgia Bagwell Tatum of Alabama, Lisa Cantrell of Canton and Nancy Godfrey of Canton as well as his brother Ricky Cantrell. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

When George’s mother was about to deliver twins, George Sosbee from Sosbee Funeral Home provided ambulance service to the hospital. The family still talk about that trip.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 28 th from 11 until 2 at the home of his sister, Diann Lummus, 3367 Arbor Hill Road, Canton, Ga. 30115.
