Frank Brooks Mayer
February 2, 1936 – April 24, 2025
Frank Brooks Mayer, a man of unwavering dedication to his family, country, and community, peacefully departed this life at the age of 89 on April 24, 2025. Born on February 2, 1936, in Birmingham, Alabama, Frank's journey was a testament to hard work, loyalty, and love.
Frank graduated from Woodlawn High School, where he excelled as a track runner, a precursor to the perseverance he would exhibit throughout his life. At the age of 17, driven by a deep sense of duty, he joined the Army, serving from 1953 to 1956 as a radio operator. His exemplary service earned him the Army of Occupation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Shortly after completing his service, Frank began his professional journey. He worked for Royal Cup Coffee before embarking on a 20-year tenure with Nabisco. Later, alongside his brother, he co-founded a successful brokerage firm, leaving his indelible mark on the business world. Frank concluded his career with Alliance Sales, embodying integrity and diligence in every role he undertook.
A devoted family man, Frank shared a remarkable 70-year marriage with his beloved wife, Margot Angerhoefer Mayer, whom he married on May 25, 1954, in Berlin, Germany. Together, they built a legacy of love and strength, raising five children: Jane Whitfield (William), Judy Yager (Matthew), David Mayer (Maureen), Cynthia Carns (Carl Lee), and James Mayer (Patty). His family grew to include 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Frank found happiness in the simplicity of life, cherishing time spent with family, hiking in the great outdoors, and cheering for Alabama football with boundless enthusiasm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mayme and Louis A. Mayer Sr.; his brothers, Jack F. Mayer and Louis A. Mayer Jr.; his grandson, Steven J. Mayer; his sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Brock Mayer and Lorene C. Mayer.
Frank Brooks Mayer's life was a reflection of his values: dedication, resilience, and love. He leaves behind a legacy that will be carried forward by the many lives he touched. He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted Monday, April 28 at 10:00a at Ridout's Forest Hill Cemetery, 431 60th St N, Birmingham, AL 35212.
