Frank Lawrence Kelly Jr.

Frank Lawrence Kelly Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025. Born on April 9, 1940, in New York City, New York, to Helen (Early) and Francis Kelly, along with his brothers Raymond and Larry. 

A 1958 graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, New York, Frank went on to earn his degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1962. He served proudly in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, combining his commitment to service with his lifelong passion for sailing.  

Frank lived a life anchored by family, service, and his deep love for the water. A passionate sailor, Frank was a proud and active member of Larchmont Yacht Club since 1982, where he found joy in both competition and camaraderie. Whether racing, cruising, or simply enjoying a quiet afternoon aboard, the sea was where Frank felt most at home.  

Frank was happiest at the helm of a sailboat, his hands steady on the wheel and his eyes on the horizon. His love of the water was matched only by his devotion to family.  

Frank married Eileen Kelly on September 20, 1989, in Ireland. They shared a love of sailing, family and their dog Molly. They especially enjoyed the family gatherings at the beach. He never missed a televised Xavier basketball game. 

Professionally, Frank was a pension administrator in Nashville, Tennessee, and a staunch union supporter. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Scarsdale, New York. 

He is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen Kelly; his sons Chris Kelly (Lisa), Brian Kelly (KC), Timothy Kelly, and Kevin Kelly (Michele); Eileen’s children Michael McDonough (Alissa), Jennifer Rosenkranz, and Kate Greer; and his cherished grandchildren Connor, Hannah, Paige, Piper, Tatum, Brooke, and Ethan.  

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life.
