It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ed “Coach” Sheppard, a devoted father, loving son, wonderful brother, and passionate sports enthusiast, on August 26, 2024 at the age of 70.
Born on April 5, 1954, in Marietta, GA. Ed spent his youth immersed in the joys of life, particularly in his love for basketball. He could often be found on the court or neighborhood, playing with friends and honing his skills, demonstrating a competitive spirit and a love for teamwork that would remain with him throughout his life.
As an adult, Ed took his passion for hard work and turned it into a successful painting business to support his family. Beyond his work, Ed found joy and relaxation in nature, particularly through fishing. He was an avid participant in fishing tournaments, where he displayed the same dedication and enthusiasm that he brought to every aspect of his life. His love for the sport was infectious, and he was always eager to share his knowledge and excitement with others.
Later in life, Ed discovered his true calling as a golf pro instructor and mentor. With his patience, expertise, and an innate ability to connect with his students, he helped countless individuals discover the joy of golf. His passion for the game, combined with his gift for teaching, made him a beloved instructor who was cherished by all who had the pleasure of learning from him.
Above all, Ed was a remarkable father who adored his daughter and was endlessly proud of her and his grandsons’ achievements. He was a source of unwavering love, support, and guidance, and his family meant the world to him. As a son, brother and friend, Ed was equally devoted, always there to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a warm smile.
Ed is survived by his daughter Melissa Ann Sheppard Thompson, son-in-law Jerimiah Alan Thompson, grandsons: Jerimiah Alan Thompson II, Jackson Edward Thompson and Jasper Isaiah Thompson; brother Jim Sheppard and sister-in-law Diane Sheppard, sisters Debra McDonald, Cyndy Sheppard, nieces and nephews who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents James and Martha Sheppard.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at noon in the Lakeside Funeral Home Chapel, 121 Claremore Dr., Woodstock, GA 30188. The family will receive friends from 11:00a until 12:00p at the funeral home to share their memories and pay tribute to the extraordinary person he was and uncle Jerry Sheppard will be the officiant of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed's memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Ed's legacy of love, dedication, and passion for life will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
