Deborah Glasco McDowell

Mrs. Deborah Glasco McDowell, age 72 of Rural Retreat in Mars Hill, NC passed away peacefully at her home on February 22, 2020, after a five year courageous battle with Peritoneal Cancer.

Debbie was a graduate of Belmont Abbey College and a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society. Before retirement she worked twenty years for the State of North Carolina Human Resources Environmental Health Services, Black Mountain, and the University of North Carolina Career Center in Asheville. She was also employed for sixteen years at Belmont Abbey College when she resided in Belmont, NC.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Harold McDowell, of thirty-two years. She is also survived by her son, John Frank Howard, Jr. of Oklahoma; granddaughter, Savannah Barakat (husband Jordan) of Duncan, OK; great granddaughter, Juniper Sage Barakat of Oklahoma; sister, Kris Glasco of Gastonia, NC; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Carter McDowell of Richmond, VA; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She is also survived by her two beloved dogs, Jessie Grace and Dutch.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Donald E., Sr. & Priscilla Pearson Glasco; brother, Don Glasco; sister, Malee Simnor.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, 11:00a at Beam Chapel, 2170 Rutherford Road, Marion, NC 28752. A reception will be held immediately following the service at Countryside BBQ, adjacent to Beam Funeral Service, 2070 Rutherford Rd, Marion, NC 28752.
