Dayton Lynn Rupard, was born on June 27, 1941 and passed away surrounded by family on October 25, 2018.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Lynn Eggers (Scott) of Elk Park, NC and Step-Son, James Rupard of Lakeview, NC. Brother, Larry Ruppard (Gail) and Sisters, Joann Sanders and Shelby Mitchell. Five Grandchildren: Natasha Griffith, Sean Puckett, Shane Puckett, Will Rupard and Sarah Rupard. Ten Great-Grandchildren: Lexi, Cade, Gavin, Kaylee, Kinsley, Kasen, Kylynn, Brooklynn, Garrett, Mason. Special nieces and nephew: Sharon Banner, Sondra Parlier, Susan Simons and Jim Tatum. Also, sister-in-law Lois Latcham and former Daughter-in-Law Michell Campbell.
Dayton was preceded in death by his beloved wife Judy, father Carl James Rupard, and mother Zada Louise Shook Rupard. Also Sisters, Claudine Trivette, Norma Jean Phillips, and Earnestine Hollars; Brother Dale Rupard, and brother-in-law Jerry Bub Tatum.
Serving as pallbearers are Sean Puckett, Shane Puckett, Will Rupard, John Hicks, Jerry Houston and Glen Griffith.
He was self-employed as a master drywall finisher with a reputation for excellence in craftsmanship. Prior to his semi-retirement, he worked alongside business partner and friend Jerry Houston for over thirty years. His work was sought after by builders in every resort and community in the High Country area. He also did remodeling work for friends and neighbors and practically rebuilt Elk Park one home at a time.
Dayton loved fishing and smoking his catch over apple wood. He spent hundreds of hours at his backyard pond. His home was surrounded by plants, flowers and bushes and his yard was always pristine. He was especially known for his bountiful tomato crops. No animal that came to his door was ever turned away.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 28 from 7:30 - 8p at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 933 Millers Gap Hwy, Newland, NC 28657 with a celebration of life to immediately follow officiated by Reverends Joe Ingham, Scott Huskins, and James Rupard. Interment will be in Elk Park Cemetery at 11a on Monday, October 29.
