Carmella Irizarry Obituary

Carmella “Millie” Irizarry (nee Russo) was born to the parents of Antoinette and Gaetano Russo, sister to Marie Grasso (deceased) and Anthony Russo, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan on September 1, 1937.

It was there that she would meet, at the age of 9, the boy who would eventually be her husband of 70 years, Frank Irizarry. Their journey together as husband and wife began on March 4, 1955, which as a loving and dedicated wife took them from the Lower East Side, Corona, Flushing, Lake Grove, Fort Salonga, Miller Place, Naples Florida, with short stays in Virginia Beach, and London.

Millie was an extremely proud and loving mother of her six children, Frankie, Tracy, Vince, Michael, Tina, and Audra, whom she loved unconditionally with no limits, which was extended lovingly to their spouses, Linda, Peter, Donna, Ken, and Alec.

She adored her 13 grandchildren, Ash, Siena, Amanda, Kristen, Dylan, Kathryn, Aria, Colin, Natalie, Jonathan, Elias, Sofia, and Ava along with her 4 great-grandchildren, Areli, Zara, Arden, and Ander whose love, joy, and pride were ever present when they were around.

Millie was an avid reader, who also loved to take responsibility of creating travel itineraries when visiting places with Frank, and at times with their dear friends, The Mangogna’s and Canellys’ within the States, Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. She was always a willing and great travel companion, as well as, a loyal and loving friend. Among her other passions were looking fashionable, cooking amazing dishes passed on by her family’s Sicilian Heritage, storytelling of our rich family history, as well as, listening to the recordings of Mario Lanza and Edith Piaf.

Also close to her heart were family gatherings and holidays in which she always went over and above to make special and unique for all.

Her greatest legacy is her beautiful face, and bright smile, her devout faith, along with the immense love she had for and shared with her family and friends.

She will be forever missed and alive in the hearts of all of us who were extremely blessed to have known and loved her.
