Mr. Johnny “John” Richard Benton, age 71 of Woodstock, GA passed away peacefully August 4, 2017 with his family by his side.
Born in Southport, N.C., John spent the last 30+ years in Cherokee County, GA. He proudly served our country in the United States Army receiving The Bronze Star Medal while serving in Vietnam.
John retired as an Information Systems Consultant with Hewlett-Packard. In his private life, he was an avid gardener that was dedicated to his family, his garden, and his faith. He was a member of Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, and until his health declined, he spent his Sunday mornings singing in the choir.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie James and Ida Lee Coleman Benton; and two brothers, Charlie James Benton, Jr. and Donald Ray Benton.
Survivors include his wife, Carol E. H. Benton; daughter, Aimee C. Benton; grandson, Landon; sister and brother-in law, Judy and David Holden; and sisters-in-law, Martha Ward Benton and Sara Benton Richardson.
The family would like to give special recognition to Landon's other grandparents, Richard Marcano (Papa R), Jesse Townsend (Papa), and Tracy Townsend (Yaya), for their support, presence, and unconditional love.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, August 6th at 4:00p at Lakeside Funeral Home Chapel, 121 Claremore Drive, Woodstock, Ga. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted Tuesday, August 8th at 2:00p Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd. Mint Hill N.C. 28227. The family will receive friends Sunday August 6th from 2:00p until the service hour at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, 889 Arnold Mill Rd, Woodstock, GA 30188 or Mountain View United Methodist Preschool, 2300 Jamerson Rd. Marietta, GA 30066.
