Mrs. Aleen Lynn Baumer Leach, age 83 of Alpharetta and formerly of Cumming, GA passed away May 4, 2017. She was born in Portland, OR in 1934 and had lived in many states around the country with her husband Kenneth of 57 years. They were married in 1959 in Portland, OR but his company transferred him 8 times across the U.S. They chose to return to Georgia to retire on Lake Lanier and had lived in Cumming, GA for several years prior to the move to Alpharetta, GA.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth; three married children: Steven Leach of New York City, Kenneth B. Leach of Suwanee; and Pamela Holliday of Alpharetta, and eight grandchildren.
Lynn received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1956 from Oregon State University and a Master of Science degree in 1959 from Ohio State University. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and Friendship Chapter of Eastern Star. She taught high school in Portland, OR and then at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR. She continued teaching at Mt. Hood Community College, Portland State College, and Clackamas Community College.
Living in Dunwoody in the late 60’s Lynn was part owner of the Apple Core Craft shop in Crabapple. With her partners they started the Dunwoody Craft Guild in Dunwoody. She was also a member of the Dunwoody Junior Woman’s Club.
Upon moving back to Oregon she organized the Mt. Park Craft Guild and became President of a newly formed Mt. Park Junior Woman’s Club. She was soon named to be on the Oregon Federation of Woman’s Club Board of Directors, representing all of Oregon’s Junior Woman’s Clubs.
Again transferred, while living in Chadds Ford, PA she became the Financial Aid Director of Bryn Mawr’s four medical schools and served on the Executive Council of the Pennsylvania State Board of Financial Aid Administrators. Upon returning to Georgia she became the Financial Aid Director at Control Data Institute before retiring.
Her hobbies included skiing, boating, snorkeling and golf. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the many weeks spent each year in the Caribbean, in both the American and British Virgin Islands. Her greatest gift was her love and devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren.
